The Island

Underwater
Diving

Bonaire is often called a divers paradise.  The island is especially known for its 53 easily accessible shore dive sites....

Bonaire's pristine reefs and diverse marine life are unique to the Caribbean. Because the waters around Bonaire have been protected by an actively managed marine park for the past 30 years, Bonaire today ranks amongst the top four best diving destinations in the world*. The island's location in the south Caribbean gives it an arid climate with little rain fall; consequently, the waters are exceptionally clear of silt, calm, and diveable year round. It is an ideal destination for underwater photographers.

Water temperatures average a warm 78-84°F (25.6-28.9°C), with visibility averaging over 100 feet (30m), and frequently reaching up to 150 feet (50m). Water temperatures do vary widely by season and location. Unless planning deep, technical dives, it's doubtful that any thermoclines will be felt within normal recreational diving depths. Water tempertures are normally at their lowest in late December and January. By March and April, the waer begins to warm up, usually peaking at its warmest from late August through November.

Snorkeling

You don't have to dive to enjoy the underwater world of Bonaire! Snorkeling allows visitors to get a broad view of the coral reef with its many inhabitants. In a few meters of depth, chances are you can spot turtles, rays or even a seahorse.

Wind Surfing

Bonaire has been recognized as one of the best places in the world to windsurf for novice through professional levels.  Additionally, Bonaire’s champions continue to rank high in world competitions.  Sorobon’s combination of continual winds, weather, sunshine and warm shallow waters make for the most idyllic of windsurfing conditions.

Bonaire’s award-winning and champion windsurf professionals are among the best in the sport.  Bonaire’s winning team practices regularly and attends various international competitions.  In addition, several competitions are hosted in Bonaire with local and international competitors attending.

Kite Surfing

Bonaire’s cool Caribbean trade winds provide the right environment for kiteboarding almost 365 days a year. The kiteboarding area is located on the south-west tip of Bonaire and can be found by following the brightly colored kites soaring through the air.
